DAVE MUSTAINE Wanted To Re-Record MEGADETH's 'Killing Is My Business' Album With Current Lineup
November 4, 2015The four members of MEGADETH — Dave Mustaine (guitar, vocals),David Ellefson (bass),Kiko Loureiro (guitar) and Chris Adler (drums) — took part in a press conference on November 3 at the Tass Russian news agency in Moscow, Russia. You can now watch the question-and-answer session in three parts below. Photos are available at GettyImages.co.uk.
Asked about the rumored 30th-anniversary reissue of MEGADETH's debut album, 1985's "Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good!", Mustaine said: "It's not a rumor. It's the thirtieth anniversary of it, so they wanted to remix it, and… I thought it would be better if we just completely re-recorded it with this new lineup, 'cause I think that would be really exciting, but we were in the process of making [the new MEGADETH] record ['Dystopia']."
Adler added that he would "love to" play more songs from "Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good!" at MEGADETH's concerts and named "The Skull Beneath The Skin" and "Looking Down The Cross" as two of his favorites from the LP. He said: "We've been talking about that as we go. And especially with the reissue coming out, it would be fun to do it."
Mustaine also talked about people misconceptions about him in an age of social media and the ability to record every moment of our lives — by photos, videos, text, so on. He said: "I think people make judgments about me, and they don't know me. They read things and they think that's who I am. A sound bite or something that you read in a magazine, when it's spoken in English to somebody whose native tongue isn't English and they translate it into their native tongue, sometimes it's lost in the translation."
He continued: "I think probably the biggest misconception is that I am not approachable. I am very approachable. I really enjoy spending time with our fans and goofing around with them. I like having fun with Twitter and Periscope, answering questions with our fans. And I think that sarcasm can be mistaken real easily for being mean-spirited. And, you know, I'm sarcastic; I can't help it."
MEGADETH's fifteenth studio album, "Dystopia", will be released on January 22, 2016. The follow-up to 2013's "Super Collider" was recorded earlier in the year in Nashville, Tennessee and was mixed by Josh Wilbur, who has previously worked with LAMB OF GOD, ALL THAT REMAINS and GOJIRA.
